Take some time for your lung health

The Irish Cancer Society has launched an Online Lung Health Checker to help the public find out if their lungs are in a healthy condition.

The Online Lung Health Checker, which is supported by Medtronic, helps users consider any symptoms they may be experiencing and provides them with a printable letter to bring to their GP.

The Irish Cancer Society launched the tool to coincide with its 2016 Lung Cancer Awareness Campaign which runs until the end of the month.

Latest research from the Irish Cancer Society shows that over a third of Irish adults who are currently experiencing three or more symptoms of lung cancer are unconcerned about the disease. It also showed that over a half of adults were unable to identify lung cancer as the leading cancer killer.

Kevin O’Hagan, Cancer Prevention Manager at the Irish Cancer Society said: “We are calling on the public to take a few minutes to put their lung health first. The Online Lung Health Checker is very straightforward and can be done on a PC or on a mobile device. It’s time to take action in relation to lung health and this simple tool can help you do so.”

Bronwyn Brophy, Vice President, Early Technologies with Medtronic said: “We are committed to partnering in new ways and developing powerful solutions that deliver better patient outcomes, so we are extremely pleased to support the valuable work of the Cancer Society, particularly its innovative Online Lung Health Checker.”
