We have reversed our decision to cut financial support for children with cancer and their families

The Irish Cancer Society has announced that it is reversing its decision to discontinue financial support for the families of children with cancer. This fund for children will now be maintained and the financial support for families of children with cancer will now continue.
 We deeply regret and apologise for the upset which our decision has caused and we hope that this announcement that we are restoring financial support for the more than 200 children and families affected by cancer every year will ease that hurt.
 Almost €200,000 will be needed this year to continue this fund but we will now work to find the savings necessary to ensure that this fund for children with cancer is maintained.

We have already made significant cuts in expenditure, including cutting staff costs, by over three quarters of a million. This includes not covering maternity leaves, the non-filling of a number of vacancies and a small number of staff redundancies.

We need the public to support us now more than ever. As a charity, we are trying to do the best we can with the money which the public generously give us. We provide free cancer services which include a palliative care night nursing service, our Volunteer Driver Service which provides free transport for cancer patients travelling for chemotherapy treatment, 13 Daffodil Centres in hospitals nationwide, the Cancer Nurseline which provides cancer information and support and free counselling for cancer patients requiring emotional support. We are the largest voluntary funder of cancer research, working to find better ways of diagnosing and treating cancer.
