Would you like to share your story publicly?
As people and families impacted by cancer come under ever-greater financial strain, the Irish Cancer Society wants to tell the real-life stories of people who face additional costs or financial challenges at an already incredibly difficult time so that we can raise important awareness and bring about meaningful action.
People affected by cancer can face a range of extra costs and financial burdens – from travel to treatment and parking in hospitals, to childminding and household bills – all while they may be unable to work.
By sharing your story you can help to make the public and decision-makers understand the day-to-day challenges that people are facing on a personal level, and bring about much-needed change.
What's involved?
After you express an interest in sharing your story and becoming a media volunteer, a member of the Irish Cancer Society Communications team will guide you through the whole process and support you throughout: discussing with you how best to share your story and getting your permission before putting you in touch with media.
The usual media options are:
- National or local newspaper or magazine
- Our website, social media or an Irish Cancer Society publication
- Radio or television.
If you agree to become a media volunteer a journalist would:
- Call you
- Conduct a phone interview
- Possibly send a photographer to take a picture of you.
If you’re interested in becoming a media volunteer, please fill out our online interest form and a member of our Communications team will contact you.
