Our stories
We are a community of survivors, families, patients, friends, nurses, doctors, scientists, professionals, supporters and volunteers.
Below is a collection of stories from cancer patients, survivors, loved ones, Irish Cancer Society staff, volunteers, researchers and many other types of people who together make up our organisation. Be inspired and know that you are not alone in your journey.
Margaret's story: “‘It’s treatable, but not curable’. I think you would have to be superhuman not be knocked by that – I was devastated.”
Rita's story: “What if my cancer had been caught sooner, maybe my surgery wouldn’t have been so difficult?”
Sarah's story: “Mum was always very clear that she didn’t want to die in a hospital – she wanted to be surrounded by family at home"
Press release: Top Irish chefs and bakers join forces to launch ‘Big Pink Breakfast’ to raise vital funds for breast cancer patients
Fergus' Story - "The sooner you find out what’s wrong, the sooner you can start to get on the road to recovery."
Sharing your story can help to raise cancer awareness, inform people about our services, appeal for volunteers, and bring reassurance to cancer patients and their loved ones.
We are always looking for people to share their stories in order to raise awareness about cancer – from how to spot its symptoms early, how to treat it, living beyond cancer, or how to prevent it completely.
If you would like to share your story with us, learn more about what’s involved.
