Businesses are making a difference with the Irish Cancer Society

National Giving Week launched last Monday, November 11th and the Irish Cancer Society wants to highlight our corporate partners who donate their time and money throughout the year to the national cancer care charity.

National Giving Week is part of Philanthropy Ireland’s 1% Difference campaign which encourages every individual and business in Ireland to give 1% of their time or income to a cause they care about with the aim of increasing private sector investment in the not-for-profit sector by 6-8% to €800 million by 2016.

Our corporate partners go above and beyond, donating their time and money throughout the year. Receiving less than 5% of income from government funding, the Irish Cancer Society rely on public and corporate support to deliver vital services. If everyone gave just one Percent either of their time or financially it would more than double current giving levels, meaning organisations like the Irish Cancer Society will get the help we need.

Cancer is a growing concern in Ireland, 1 in 3 people will develop cancer during their lifetime. Latest data shows that 33,741 people were diagnosed with cancer in Ireland in 2010 and this year we expect that there will be up to 35,000 new cases of cancer diagnosed across the country. The support of the public and our generous corporate partners means the Irish Cancer Society can support daily the thousands of people who are concerned about cancer.

Money and time donated by our generous partners goes towards providing cancer information and support services to thousands affected by cancer across Ireland each year.

Some of our corporate sponsors include:

  • Ovelle Pharmaceuticals: Irish skincare brand Elave is a fundraising sponsor of the Irish Cancer Society’s Survivorship Programme. The Survivorship Programme provides practical and emotional one-to-one support for those newly diagnosed with cancer by people who have undergone cancer treatment themselves. Between the 1st May and the end of June €1 from every Elave Shower Gel 250ml, Shampoo 250ml and Intensive Cream 125g sold will go to the Society’s Survivorship Programme.
  • Ballyfree Eggs: During Breast Cancer Awareness Month Ballyfree Eggs donated funds from sales of their pink packaged free range eggs, which were available from leading Irish retailers.
  • Move Me Ireland: The Zumba Fitness Grab UR Girls event chose to support the Irish Cancer Society’s Action Breast Cancer programme at their event on Sunday October 6th 2013 in the RDS.
  • Roche: Roche marked five decades in providing innovative cancer care by supporting the Irish Cancer Society’s National Conference for Cancer Survivorship in September. The conference aimed to address the needs of cancer survivors and their families and featured patient-focused sessions on areas ranging from living with specific cancer types to spirituality and behavioral change after cancer.
