Galway symptomatic breast clinic
Hi,
I have a question about referrals for a breast lump.
Quick history. I had a benign phyllodes tumour removed last year. I went private for the surgery.
5 months later I have a new lump. My GP has sent a referral to the private surgeon.
Can a private referral be longer wait times than going public? It's been 2 weeks and I don't have an appointment yet. Due to my age, my referral would have been sent as urgent.
Do you happen to know current wait times for urgent referrals in Galway in the public system?
Thanks
Good luck today.
I found the public clinic very good.
I just went private for my surgery and wrongly presumed that going private at the same place for my new lump would be the fastest option.

Dear SJ80,
Thank you for posting to our online community.
I am sorry to read that you have a new lump that needs review and that you have not had an appointment yet. I would recommend that you contact the private Surgeon’s clinic and ask what the wait times are and if they can give you an appointment date. If the wait times are longer than expected you could return to your GP and discuss a referral to the public clinic.
I hope this helps and that you get an appointment soon.
If you would like to speak to one of our nurses about this please don’t hesitate to call us on the Support Line on 1800 200 700, Mon to Fri, 9am to 5pm.
Kind regards,
Cancer Nurse
I was referred to Galways breast clinic by my gp on Friday and got a call from them Monday to set up an appointment which I have tomorrow. Found them very fast to deal with.
