Last reply: 28 December 2022 14:11

Hi
I had a prostatectomy on Dec 9th and cathera removed on 19th

I am doing daily exercises but am still very incontinent. I know this is in normal range but wondering if there is anything else I can do.

I have booked specialist physio appointment but earliest is Feb 1st.

Regards
John

Hi John

Thank you for posting on our Ask the Nurse section of our online community. I am sorry to hear that the urinary incontinence is continuing to be a significant problem for you. I don’t know from your ‘post’ if there has been any improvement but there may be some suggestions we could make that you might find beneficial. It is a very hard side effect to have to deal with.

I wonder would you phone our support line and speak to a cancer nurse. We could discuss this further with you, what you are currently trying and what you might also consider doing. Our phone number is 1800 200 700 and we are here Mon-Fri 9-5pm. You might also look at our section on our website’ Managing urinary symptoms after prostate cancer’

We would also suggest you speak to your GP and Urologist if you are noticing no improvement.

We could also arrange for you to speak to one of our volunteers who have been through surgery for prostate cancer and are trained to provide support also through our ‘peer-support’ programme

I do hope we will hear from you

Kind regards

Cancer Nurse
