Does taste return to normal before start of new cycle ?

Last reply: 15 April 2013 15:38

Hi, not the worse part of chemo but I am already dying to taste food properly again and am only on day 10 of first cycle. Would be something to look forward to next weekend if normal taste resumed before cycle no 2?. What normally happens during each cycle or does metallic taste laste for all the treatment period?
And any top tips for dealing with it please ?
Thanks LL?

Yes normal taste always resumed with me before the next cycle. Have to say that's what I hated most as I couldn't eat it just made me feel worse. Some one said fresh pineapple or ginger . To be honest I never tried them. I used to such lemon sweets but when you finished the horrible taste came back. Hope this helps

Hi Leitrim Lady,

Yes, my taste used to return to normal before each new round too, though towards the end it used to return more slowly. The first round of chemo was definitely the worst for me concerning taste and everything else. The other chemo treatments were easier to tolerate.

Good luck

Hi Leitrim Lady
Same as above, from day 5 or 6 after treatment I'd be back to normal; on the days I felt gawky, I loved ice-pops, like the Fruit Pastilles Ice Lolly. And ice-cold water with a small bit of fruit cordial in it. I wonder what is it with my craving for cold things!?! Same when I had morning sickness!!

Take care
