Ct & biopsy

Last reply: 20 December 2024 10:41

Hi folks

So my brother who lives abroad was experiencing urinary issues with blood in his urine. He acted fast and made an appointment. His PSA levels are normal. He was sent for an ultrasound, it showed bladder and kidneys normal. But the radiologist said is lymphnodes were enlarged . The specialist called that day and has scheduled a CT.
When he called the hospital the receptionist said there will also be a biopsy at some point, but no datez given.

We're all concerned. I have a cancer history myself .

Does anyone know if these tests are normal, especially In Scandinavian countries or is he facing something sinister? The waiting is so difficult.

Thanks and lots of love to everyone ❤️

Dear just_me.

Thank you for posting on our online community forum. I am sorry to read that your brother is passing blood in his urine. I am glad to read that his recent imaging was clear.

There are several reasons, other than cancer, that can explain blood in the urine. These include:

  • Urinary tract infections
  • Kidney infection
  • A bladder or kidney stone
  • An enlarged prostate
  • Kidney disease
  • Kidney injury-A blow or other injury to the kidneys from an accident or contact sports can cause blood to show up in urine.
  • Medicines
  • Hard exercise

The lymph nodes can be enlarged because of any of the above. However, it is important to determine the cause of the enlarged lymph nodes where possible. When conventional imaging, such as an ultrasound, cannot identify a reason for blood in the urine or enlarged lymph nodes, a CT scan is often recommended.

Kind regards,

Cancer Nurse
