Parodit tumor

Last reply: 16 January 2025 10:59

So I had good news and not so good news yesterday. Had FNA results. Lymph node was benign but the tumor in my parotid gland was inconclusive so I now have to get surgery ASAP to remove the tumor. Is inconclusive bad ? The tumor will be biopsied again once removed. Scared of the surgery scared of the outcome but trying to stay positive

Dear bananas1.

Thank you for posting on our online forum. I am sorry to read that you have concerns relating to your parotid gland. I am sure that it is a worrying time for you.

Inconclusive biopsy results can be frustrating and anxiety-inducing for people. When a biopsy result is labelled as ‘inconclusive’ or ‘indeterminate,’ the sample obtained does not provide a clear answer regarding the nature of the parotid nodule.  This can happen for several reasons: there could have been a problem processing the sample, the sample didn’t contain enough of the affected tissue, or the sample size was not large enough. If your biopsy results are inconclusive, your doctor may decide to perform another biopsy, if the area can be accessed, or excision (removal)  to confirm a diagnosis. An excisional biopsy removes an entire area of concern, providing more material to confirm a diagnosis.

Receiving an inconclusive biopsy result can be disheartening, but it is essential to remember that it doesn’t necessarily mean cancer. However, it indicates that further evaluation or additional testing is needed for a definitive diagnosis. Waiting for results may be the hardest part of having a biopsy. Your doctor will explain how and when you will receive your results. A biopsy generally take 10-15 working days to process.
