compression sleeve for flying

You should really be measured for this sleeve. I attend Beaumont and sourced said sleeve by first putting a call into my BC nurse who organised for the physio dept to call me. I had an appointment and fitting in the physio dept a week or so later. They recommend wearing sleeve on ALL flights.

thank you. I guess I'll try giving the breast care nurses a call although I've left it a little late now perhaps. Thanks for replies.

If you attend Beaumont, just go down to the physio dept and ask the receptionist to get one of the physios to come out and measure your arm and give you a compression garment. If you have lymphodema, they should have given you one immediately. It is really important that you have this for flights as without it you could really aggrevate the arm and cause more swelling which may prove difficult to get rid of. I was told by the physio that those flight sock things should never be used on your arm as they may make it worse. Dont ask me why but apparently the material in them can compress the arm too much.

I flew a couple of weeks ago and was told by breast nurse that they no longer advise the wearing of compression sleeves but to try and move the arm s much as possible during the flight.

Spoke to breast care nurse yesterday and she said for flights under 4 hours it's not necessary to wear a compression sleeve (that's the advise of physio at CUH anyway, I guess it varies between hospitals). so I'm just going to keep the arm moving as much as possible and let hubby carry all the heavy luggage

I am flying next week as well and although I have the compression sleeve I also went to Dunnes and bought a cheap pillow which I am going to use as a support to keep my arm as raised as possible. I know I will look like a right numpty going through the airport with a pillow but I dont care anymore, whatever is going to make life easier, as god knows we have all been through enough without ending up with an elephant arm!!
