Tamoxifen
Hi, I'm looking for some advice or tips regarding taking tamoxifen. I got my 1st prescription today and am quite anxious about taking it due to possible side effects. I was diagnosed with early stage breast cancer in March needing 2 mastectomies but no radiation or chemotherapy. Any advice or tips greatly appreciated
Hello Wobbles, I hope you are well. I can totally relate to the anxiety you are experiencing re Tomoxifen. I had it also. I started taking it about 4 months ago and so far so good. Initially i had some bone pain, but nothing major. Reading about it online just isnt helpful as it is mainly those with issues that post as they are the people who need to talk and find help.
I do a lot of walking and eat as healthy as possible - I have also cut alcohol down to a minimum in an attempt to give myself the best possible change with this thing.
Hope you get on ok.
xx
Hi ,
I am sorry to hear about your breast cancer diagnosis and the surgery that you needed as a result. I hope your recovery post-surgery has been ok.
As you have mentioned, you are starting Tamoxifen and have some anxieties around that. It is normal to feel anxious when beginning a new treatment and many women feel the same. While there may be side effects while taking Tamoxifen, there also ways in which to manage them if or when they may occur. If you contact our Support Line you can talk to one of the nurses here about the side effects or we can put you in touch with someone who is on Tamoxifen from our peer to peer support group if you would find this helpful.
Please don’t hesitate to contact the Support Line on 1800 200 700 Monday to Friday 9-5pm to speak with a Cancer nurse for any advice. I hope this information is helpful.
Kind Regards,
Cancer Nurse
