Last reply: 24 September 2024 16:38

Hi my name is Annie and I live in wexford.
I was diagnosed with stage 4 hodgkin's lymphoma in my chest and bones 2 weeks ago.
I am really struggling with sleep and money worries 😟
I feel so lonely when my partner and son are at work and school.
I can't seem to have a plan each day. Any advise

Hi Annie

Sorry to hear that you have been diagnosed with stage 4 hodgkin's lumphoma. There are number of things you can try to help you to forget even for a little while about your situation. If you feel up to it why not get some fresh air everyday even if it's only for a short while. You could also try Journaling everyday about how you are feeling. To help with sleep you could listen to a meditation every night either just before you go to bed or in bed. All meditation apps are free to download and while they charge for membership, you can get some of their meditations for free.

Wishing you the best of luck with your treatment.

Best wishes

Dear Annie1991

Thank you for posting on our online forum. I am very sorry to read about your diagnosis of stage 4 Hodgkins lymphoma, this must be a difficult time for you and your family.

The emotional impact of a cancer diagnosis is often underestimated. The emotions experienced after a diagnosis can also affect how you feel physically. You may notice changes in your energy, sleep, and appetite. While these changes might be caused by your cancer or cancer treatment, your feelings can also affect them.  Many people find it helpful to talk about cancer and how it is affecting them as it can help you to cope with your emotions. We are all cancer nurses on our support line, and we would very much like to support you at this difficult time. I wonder if you would like to call our support line. Our number is 1800 200 700, and we are here Monday-Friday, from 0900-1700.

You also mention that you are having money worries. The Irish Cancer Society have a practical and financial team who may be able to assist you. The nurses on the support line can refer you if necessary.

Kind regards,

Cancer Nurse
