Hi. A very close family member has been diagnosed with the above and will start chemotherapy soon.. We're just looking for some positive outcomes please. We're very concerned with how it's a dormant cancer and can come back. Is this always the case?
Dear just me.
Thank you for posting on our online forum. I am very sorry to read that a family member has been diagnosed with an indolent follicular lymphoma. I am sure that this is a worrying time for you as a family. I do hope that you hear from others who may be able to address your query. In the meantime, I hope you find the following information helpful.
Indolent follicular lymphoma is a type of non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL), a type of cancer of the white blood cells of the lymphatic, or immune system. Indolent means that it is slow growing and often developing over many months, or even years before being diagnosed. Because of the slow-growing nature of these lymphomas, a person may not have any symptoms and will only be diagnosed with the lymphoma after having tests or scans for some other reason. However, if the lymphoma starts to grow, the person may experience symptoms and need treatment.
Follicular lymphoma is the second most common type of lymphoma. Early diagnosis and treatment may lead to remission. Lymphoma that does go into remission may eventually be cured, but that isn’t always the case. Several treatment options are available, with the stage of the disease determining the amount, frequency, or combination of these treatments. Your relative’s doctor will explain their treatment options and determine which treatment will work best for their disease. Treatments may be changed or added to depending on the effect they have.
