Recent diagnosis of prostate cancer

Hi, I have recently been diagnosed with prostate cancer. The urologist has informed me it is at the early stages thankfully with a score of 7. He told me I had three treatment options available to choose from. Surgery, External beam radiation or brachytherapy.
My initial leaning is towards the brachytherapy following a discussion with the urologist. I will hopefully meet the oncologist in the next couple of weeks to discuss the options further.
Has anyone had this form of treatment? The research I have read indicates it has a quicker recovery time with less side effects. Is this the case?
Dear Parky
Thank you for posting your query on our online community. I am sorry to see you have not had a reply yet. I hope you will soon.
Meanwhile if you would find it helpful to speak to a cancer nurse you can do so by phoning our support line. We can discuss these treatment options with you. We can also arrange for you to speak to one of our trained volunteers in our ‘survivor support’ who has had brachytherapy.
We can post to you our booklet understanding Prostate cancer which outlines the advantages and disadvantages of all of the above treatments. As nurses here we can discuss with you questions for the radiation oncologist and for the urologist. There may also be a cancer support centre local to you, where you can meet other men who have been through treatment for prostate cancer. Of course it is never exactly the same for any 2 people. This is often why prepared questions for your consultant will give you the most accurate information, relevant to you.
If you have by now spoken to your radiation oncologist we can hear from you what he/she is recommending. We are all cancer nurses here-Mon-Fri 9-5pm and our phone number is 1800 200 700.
I do hope we will hear from you
Kind regards
Cancer Nurse
