Abnormal Cells Breast Biopsy

Last reply: 28 June 2021 15:17
Hi I got an Ultrasound and mammogram last July due to lump on breast, mammogram showed up calcificifications on opposite breast the left one.Was called back for stereotactic biopsy, results were not cancer thank god but was told I would have another mammogram in 12 months. Had an general appointment with consultant Tuesday and he said results of biopsy last year were not cancer but they were not normal, so will be having yearly mammograms,I started to get a bit worried and told him he said it may increase chance of getting breast cancer down the line and also with family history too,I am 47 and feel a little worried still what does abnormal cells mean ?

Hi, I wonder can you help me? My father is 88 and has had several bcc removed over the yrs the most recent last week on his nose, and a fairly substantial one on his head requiring a skin graft,3 wks previous! These surgeries were very difficult for him and I really feel he has really aged since , I know you cant advise me but what would happen if he didnt have any more removed, my heart goes out to him , he was fairly active up to now Im wondering is it really necessary to keep having surgeries, he lives on his own in Dublin, I live in Galway, he has mentioned to me he couldnt face anymore surgeries but doesnt want to die yet! Thank you for listening kind regards Fiona

Hi, my dad has metastatic melanoma in his brain. We have been through the highs and lows for the last few years of available Irish treatments. He has gone though all the courses here and wondering has anyone any advice on where to look for treatments abroad for this? Thank you, Eric

Genetic testing??

Last reply: 21 April 2021 17:20
Hi, my names Sarah and I’m 30 years old with 3 wonderful children and a loving fiancé. When I was 15 I lost my mam to cancer (lung & liver) my auntie (mams sister) had died of cancer 6 months before her. My mam was 45 and her sister was 41, when my mam was 40 she was diagnosed with breast cancer. She had her treatment but dispute being “cancer free” for a few years it returned in 2006 and 8 weeks later she passed away. Her sister was diagnosed with breast cancer in her 30’s and then another type of cancer which she died from. I’m not sure which type but I know with both of them it stemmed from the breast cancer. Now I have a decision to make, do I have the genetics test done or not? I have to go private if I do decide to have it done and it’s €1,200 which is a lot of money when you have 3 small children. I’m not sure if my mam or aunt had the cancer gene so I’m confused if I should have it done. How can they tell if I have the gene if they don’t know if my mother or auntie had it. I don’t have enough information about it and I don’t have anyone to ask advice or talk to that understands. Is it worth getting the rest in your opinion? Maybe my mam and her sister were just unlucky or could they possible have had the gene themselves. Any advice you can give me would be greatly appreciated. I’m a bit lost at the minute. Thank you.

Mam Newly diagnosed

Last reply: 16 March 2021 19:19
Hi my mam has just been diagnosed with primary gallbladder cancer and liver metastasis. She is starting chemo for 3 months in the next few weeks, they’ve said if that doesn’t work they’ll try another round. nothing was mentioned at the doctors appointment when she was diagnosed about an outlook or a timeline,or if it was pallative however they did mention stage 4, and I suppose I’m just trying to find the positives here but is that a good sign that they are doing the chemo ? He did say it’s serious, not curable, but treatable . Sorry if this is a silly question, we are just trying to come to terms and find some glimmer of hope . Thanks for your help .

acute leukemia

Last reply: 16 March 2021 15:21
My father is sick of acute myeloid leukemia. Since December he's very weak and thin, sometimes doesn't eat enough and sleeps more. Sometimes he had fever. He can't even receive treatments as he also does dialysis. He's just receiving transfusions. Can you inform me how many months maximum he can live with this general picture? Please let me know so I can have a better idea. Thanks in advance.

Biopsy results

Last reply: 16 March 2021 15:18
Hi, I had a stereotactic biopsy done on 24th February in St James. I haven't received an appt for results. I have been waiting patiently but I know the team meet on Tuesday mornings so had hoped to hear today. I haven't received a call and I've been trying to get in touch with the Breastcare nursing office but it's going through to voicemail all afternoon. I'm feeling very stressed now as it's day 13. Is it normal to have to wait so long?

My dad was recently diagnosed with colon cancer with mestatic liver cancer. Is hopefully going in next week to have tumour removed from colon. Just wondering will he get any relief from symptoms once the tumour is removed and will chemo help with the liver. Really hard times at the moment the not knowing is the worst.
