I need to RANT, sorry!

Last reply: 05 May 2011 22:33
Sorry for moaning everyone.... I am now just over 4 wks out from my last surgery which removed my expanders and left me flat. I am still leaking fluid daily (but nowhere near as much as before TG). I have itchy red welts in a giant rectangle all over my right chest from the dressings constantly having to be pulled off and changed several times a day. My body (as per usual) is now pushing the soluble stitches to the skins surface in little cavities filled with pus along my incision. The fluid loves all these little cavities that keep appearing and is dribbling out each as they appear. I am constipated from antibiotics, can't eat properly, vomit regularly, have lost another half stone in 3 wks and have no energy. I honestly believe that this will end and it will be in the next few weeks but I HAVE A PAIN IN MY ARSE WITH THE WHOLE BLOODY THING NOW!!!! Phew, that feels better.... Better out than in, as Shrek says. Flo.

Neulasta

Last reply: 11 May 2011 09:48
I was given a Neulasta injection after my 2nd round of chemo and it's prescribed for the final 2 also. I found that it seemed to intensify the side effects and I was really unwell for a couple of days. Has anyone any help or advice on this please.

Distraught after losing my father

Last reply: 29 March 2012 13:11
I lost my dear father last week to brain cancer. He only lived 10 months from diagnosis to death and it was a rollercoaster of a journey. I was by his side for the last two months as he went downhill rapidly over xmas and New Year. We were told then that he only had a few days but lasted until 4th March. It was a horrific journey at that point though and I was with him when he eventually passed away. I am finding it very tough. While he was ill, I just dealt with it and tried not to dwell on the inevitable outcome. His prognosis had always been poor. Now that he's gone, I'm reflecting on everything he went through and becoming increasingly distraught. I feel guilty that I couldn't do anything to help him. I even feel guilty about his death and wonder if I'd called the nurse earlier would he still be with us. I can't come to terms with any of it and feel I let him down.

Masectomy and chemo ahead - help!

Last reply: 09 May 2011 15:41
Hi there Diagnosed end of jan, grade 2 lobular, just finished 3 months on hormones to try to shrink tumour. It was a chunky 7cm, now 5cm, they told me yesterday they not happy with the amount of shrinkage so far, so am off tamoxifen from today. They having a meeting about me Thursday and I have two options going forward. a) Full masectomy immediately followed by chemo, and eventually radiation. b) Chemo first, then we see if any more shrinkage, then surgery (possibly - probably- still masectomy but may be less) and then radiation. My first thought was go for the surgery first, but now I'm not sure. If they recommend one over the other, then I'll go with them but would be interested to hear anyone's thoughts. thanks

Mole Check waiting list 7 years

Last reply: 16 May 2011 12:04
Good afternoon, I am looking for advice about having a mole check. I fall into the "high risk" category with red hair, fair skin and multiple moles all over my body. The crux is I am a public patient and do not hold any private health insurance (nor can afford any). I recently went to my GP to seek referral for a mole check to the Limerick Regional Hospital and was told that the waiting list for dermatology is 7 years!!! She has given me contact details for private specialists. Can anyone tell me what my options are at this stage and costs involved? Thanks for help in advance

Juicing

Last reply: 28 July 2011 00:05
I want to start juicing, starting chemo soon and feel the need to be as 'healthy' as I possibly can, already trying to do my 5 a day and cut out processed stuff. Anyone doing it, do I have to fork out for an expensive 'juicer' or can I just use an old blender?? What do people drink, fruits, veggies? All advice welcome please xx

78 year old woman with breast cancer

Last reply: 27 May 2011 23:57
Hi everyone Need some advice and i am not too sure if you can offer any but dont know who else to ask..... 78year old woman in otherwise good health diagnosed with breast cancer last friday. It seems to be in the late stages (or at least not early stages) and it has been detected in her lymph nodes. She is having more tests tomorrow to see if it has gone further. 1: if it hasnt. What would the plan be , just take the breast and the lymph nodes? maybe some radiotherapy? 2: if it has spread further . Realistically how much longer can she be kept comfortable ? i would REEAALLYY appreciate some advice. ( she is back to the doctors on friday 13/5.) G
